THE FARM CAN WAIT
Not Ready for the Farm navigates our universal journey of aging — consciously, realistically, and with a great attitude. Through candid conversations with professionals, authors, and everyday people, Judy Miller and her sidekick, Jess Anderson, with humor and compassion, deep dive into the issues we confront as we grow older. No holds barred as we explore money, relationships, living life to the fullest, family dynamics, finding our purpose, third acts, retirement, health and health care, longevity, activities, travel, community, loneliness, quality of life and dying. Often painfully honest. Empowering and inspirational. With laughter and tears. How do we make every moment count? What’s your journey? What’s your plan?
JUDY MILLER
HOST, WRITER, PRODUCER, CREATOR
Judy has had many lives: lawyer, entertainment producer, real estate developer, college instructor, inventor, strategic business consultant, corporate CEO, and now a podcast host. She’s curious, irreverent, and incapable of slowing down. When her doctor at Duke said, "Judy, I'll be with you til the end" — a startled Judy said, “What end? What do you know that I don’t? There’s an end?” That jarring little moment was an awakening. She hadn't ever thought about retirement, where she'd live if she couldn't live alone, or dying — none of it.… that she was actually now a senior! That wake-up call became the inspiration for Not Ready for the Farm — a podcast to intimately insights, as we learn together navigating Judy’s personal journey of aging…. a journey we’re all on.
JESS ANDERSON
SIDEKICK, CONTRIBUTING PRODUCER
Jess is the mayor of Chapel Hill and a professor of public policy at the University of North Carolina in Chapel Hill. With a career built on asking hard questions and pushing for real answers — from state policy work to elected office — Jess brings intellectual rigor and genuine curiosity to every conversation. She's spent her professional life thinking seriously about how systems affect real people, and it shows. Jess is Judy's co-conspirator — a younger voice at the table generational perspective, fresh eyes, and willingness to go there.
ALIX RITCHIE
KEEPER OF QUIRKY TALES
Alix is a media strategy consultant, social and feminist activist, and self-described agitator. A political leader in the women’s and LGBTQ equality movements, having served on many boards, including the advisory board of Ms. Magazine.
Alix supports the arts and is a producer of several Broadway shows and two films. She was founder and publisher of the Provincetown Banner and has received continuous recognition for her years of environmental and educational public advocacy. Her desire to share quirky readings from her antiquated, out-of-print children’s poetry collection inspired Judy’s invite to read for Not Ready for the Farm, illustrating how far we’ve come from traditional cultural stereotypes.
